Dr. Feland Meadows Legacy
Dr. Feland L. Meadows, Ph.D., was a distinguished educator and pioneer in Montessori teacher training. In 1973, he co‑founded the Pan American Montessori Society (PAMS) alongside Dr. Elisabeth Caspari, a direct student of Maria Montessori, marking the beginning of a lifelong mission to promote Montessori education internationally.
Over several decades, Dr. Meadows became a globally recognized authority in the field, personally training over 4,000 Montessori guides across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, France, and Switzerland . His expertise also influenced Montessori accreditation standards—he served as Chairman of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) Commission on Accreditation from 1997 to 2003.
In addition to his administrative and accrediting roles, Dr. Meadows held the Roberto C. Goizueta Endowed Chair and served as Professor of Early Childhood Education at Kennesaw State University, contributing significantly to research—such as examining second-language acquisition in Montessori settings.
In summary, Dr. Meadows dedicated his entire career to the advancement and integrity of Montessori education—founding PAMS, shaping teacher training around the world, and helping lay the groundwork for MACTE’s rigorous standards—all with a spirit of international collaboration and excellence.
